Recurring Cleaning Through the North Texas Seasons

That Cleaning Girl · Weekly & Bi-Weekly Maid Service

Good feedback helps your cleaner learn your home. If you want tips on giving it, see How to Give Your Cleaner Feedback (So Every Visit Fits You Better). But your home also changes with the seasons, and here in North Texas, every season brings its own kind of mess. This guide walks through the year and what to adjust in your recurring cleaning along the way.

Spring: the pollen season

Spring in North Texas is beautiful and messy. Oak, pine and other trees release clouds of yellow pollen that coat everything — cars, patios, windowsills and the inside of your house every time the door opens.

What helps in spring:

  • Dusting more often. Pollen settles on surfaces fast. Weekly or bi-weekly service keeps up with it better than monthly.
  • Interior windows and sills. A great extra to rotate in after the worst of the pollen.
  • Blinds. They collect pollen and dust, especially near open windows.
  • Entry floors. Pollen and dirt get tracked in from outside.

Spring storms also bring mud. After a heavy rain, red clay comes in on shoes and paws and gets into grout and rugs fast.

If you open the windows on those first nice days in March and April — and who does not — expect a fresh layer of pollen on every flat surface by evening. It is worth it for the breeze. Just know that your cleaner will be wiping a lot of yellow dust off the sills on the next visit, and it is a good reason not to stretch the schedule during spring.

Summer: heat, kids and cookouts

North Texas summers are hot, and everyone spends more time inside with the AC running. Kids are home from school, the kitchen gets used more and the house sees more traffic than usual.

What helps in summer:

  • More frequent service. Many families move to weekly visits from June through August.
  • Ceiling fans. They run all day and collect dust fast.
  • Kitchen focus. More meals at home mean more grease and crumbs.
  • Bathrooms. Pool days and lake weekends mean more showers, more wet towels and more sand.

If you spend weekends at the lake, a Friday or Monday visit can help you start or end the weekend with a clean house.

Summer heat also means bugs looking for a cool place to hide. A regular vacuum along baseboards, under furniture and in corners clears away the cobwebs and crumbs that draw them in, which is one more small reason to keep visits steady through the hottest months.

Fall: back to school and the oven

Fall brings cooler weather and a return to routine. Kids are back in school, the house is quieter during the day and the holidays are on the horizon.

What helps in fall:

  • A good reset after summer. The first visit after school starts is a great time for extras like baseboards or walls and doors.
  • Inside the oven. Get it cleaned before Thanksgiving baking starts.
  • Holiday planning. Send us your holiday schedule early, since the weeks before Thanksgiving and Christmas fill up fast.
  • Entry mats. Fall rain means more mud tracked in.

Winter: cedar season and holiday guests

Winter in North Texas brings mountain cedar season, which can make allergy sufferers miserable from December into February. It also brings holiday parties, out-of-town guests and pine needles everywhere.

What helps in winter:

  • Regular dusting and vacuuming. Cedar pollen settles inside, and regular cleaning keeps it down.
  • Guest room linens. Changing linens is an easy extra before guests arrive.
  • Inside the fridge. Before the holidays to make room, and after to clear out leftovers.
  • A post-holiday reset. Book a visit right after Christmas or New Year to clean up after the celebrations.

Ice days can occasionally shift the schedule. If roads are bad, we will reach out to move your visit.

Tip: Keep a doormat inside and outside every entrance year-round. In North Texas, something is always coming in on shoes — pollen in spring, sand in summer, mud in fall and cedar dust in winter.

Adjusting your schedule through the year

Some households keep the same schedule all year. Others shift with the seasons. A few common patterns:

  • Bi-weekly most of the year, weekly in summer for families with kids at home.
  • Bi-weekly most of the year, weekly during pollen and cedar season for allergy sufferers.
  • Monthly most of the year, more often around the holidays for tidy households that host.

Just let us know when you want to change and when you want to switch back.

Rotating extras with the seasons

Seasons are a natural guide for when to rotate extras:

  • Spring: interior windows and blinds.
  • Summer: baseboards and walls and doors.
  • Fall: inside the oven.
  • Winter: inside the fridge and changing linens.

Over a year, every major extra gets done at the time it makes the most sense.
