How to Skip or Move a Cleaning Visit

That Cleaning Girl · Weekly & Bi-Weekly Maid Service

Recurring service is built around a steady schedule, but life does not always cooperate. If you are still setting up payment, see Paying for Maid Service With a Card on File. This guide covers what to do when you need to skip a visit or move it to another day.

The short answer: just let us know. There is no complicated process and no app to fight with. A quick message is all it takes.

Common reasons to skip or move

People skip or move visits for all kinds of reasons:

  • A sick kid home from school who needs a quiet house.
  • Contractors, a plumber or the HVAC tech coming the same day.
  • Family visiting and the guest room is occupied.
  • A new baby, a surgery or a hard week.
  • A work-from-home day with back-to-back calls.
  • Travel, a lake weekend or a holiday.

All of these are normal. A good recurring schedule bends a little without breaking.

Skip or move: which is better?

Moving a visit means shifting it to a different day that same week or close to it. It is the better choice when the house still needs cleaning but your usual day does not work. For example, you have a Tuesday slot but the carpet installers are coming Tuesday, so you move to Thursday.

Skipping a visit means not having that clean at all and picking back up at your next regular visit. It makes sense when nobody will be home to make a mess — like a week out of town — or when the house was just deep cleaned for a party.

Keep in mind that skipping means a longer gap. If you are on a monthly schedule, skipping one visit means two months between cleans, and the next one will have more to tackle. On weekly or bi-weekly service, a single skip is barely noticeable.

How much notice helps

The earlier you tell us, the easier it is to work around your change. A few days of notice gives us the best chance of finding another good time for you, and it lets us plan the rest of the schedule.

Same-day changes happen too — a kid wakes up with a fever, a pipe bursts — and we understand. Just reach out as soon as you know. The sooner we hear, the better we can adjust.

Tip: Put your known conflicts on your calendar as soon as you know about them — school breaks, trips, holidays — and send us all of them at once. It is much easier than remembering each one the week before.

Moving a visit: what to expect

When you ask to move a visit, we will look for the closest open time that fits your week. Sometimes that is the next day; sometimes it is a few days later. Because recurring clients keep a regular slot, other days may already be full, especially around holidays. That is why notice helps.

If your regular cleaner is not available on the new day, we will let you know and work out the best option. The goal is always to keep your home on track.

Will I lose my slot?

Skipping or moving a single visit does not mean losing your regular day and time. Your slot stays yours, and your next visit goes back to your usual schedule.

If you need a longer break — a few months away, a remodel, a temporary move — talk to us about it. We will work out what makes sense for your schedule when you come back. There is no automatic setting for long breaks; it is just a conversation.

When your schedule needs a permanent change

Sometimes the need to skip or move is a sign your schedule itself should change. If you are moving your Monday visit every other week because of a standing work meeting, it is probably time to pick a new regular day. If you keep skipping because the house does not need it, maybe every three weeks or monthly fits better than every two weeks.

Changing your regular slot or frequency is simple. Just let us know what you have in mind, and we will find a new day and time that works.

What not to do

A couple of things make skipping and moving harder than they need to be:

  • Not telling us at all. If your cleaner shows up and cannot get in, it creates a wasted trip and a scramble.
  • Changing codes without notice. A new door code or a moved lockbox can look like a skip when you did not mean one.
  • Saying maybe. If you are not sure whether you need the visit, it is better to keep it than leave it hanging. A clean house is rarely a mistake.

People across Waxahachie, Midlothian and the south DFW area skip and move visits all the time, and it is not a problem. Recurring service is meant to make your life easier, not add another thing to manage. A quick message and we take care of the rest.

Keep it simple

Skipping or moving a visit should take less effort than the clean itself. Message us as early as you can, tell us what you need, and your regular schedule picks right back up afterward. Learn more about how recurring service works on our weekly and bi-weekly maid service page.
